Heucofloor EP pastes |
This range of pastes has been developed for the colouration of thick-film systems based on solvent-free epoxy binders : the main application field is for polymer floor coatings.
For floors, grey and beige are the preferred colours, but red ands green shades or multicoloured decorative surfaces are also used. Pigmenting of these systems is not a trivial matter and there are two main problems :-
Floating and flooding of pigments
In most cases, the desired shade can only be obtained by blending pigments : these often differ wildly in their particle sizes, density and surface properties. As a consequence, they tend to separate during the film drying process : horizontal separation known as floating and vertical as flooding. The first causes undesirable surface texturing (Benard cells), whereas the latter causes variation in shade due to uneven distribution through the film thickness.
Dispersing the colourant on-site
As mills will not be available in such a location, simple stirrers have to be used. This type of equipment produces only small shearing forces and therefore only pigments or pigment preparations which disperse very easily can be used.
Heucofloor EP pastes offer solutions to both problems. They consist of a solvent-free epoxy binder and well-dispersed pigments which have been carefully selected with respect to their floating and flooding properties. The pastes contain only a single pigment, so that a variety of shades may be obtained by mixing different pastes.
For floor coatings these products exhibit ideal properties :-
- very good light-fastness and weather-resistance
- very good resistance to chemicals
- good dispersability
- no tendency to float or flood
