Heuco Organic Pigments for Inks

Heubach offers a full range of organic pigments, manufactured at its sites in the USA and India, or produced specifically for it in Europe. These materials are sold under the trade names Heuco, Monastral, Monolite and Vynamon.

The plant at Ankleshwar in India came into production in October 1995 initially to produce phthalocyanine blues. Far from being a "third world" factory, this has been constructed to the most modern environmental standards : it has already been praised for an in-house 4MW power plant which operates to an overall efficiency of 80%, thanks to the recovery of waste heat. It also produces material which conforms to the tightest EU and US dioxin and PCB standards.

The Monastral / Monolite and Vynamon ranges of high-performance automotive pigments, phthalocyanines, azo pigments and speciality pigment dispersions were purchased by Heubach in 2003 from Avecia. The Heuco range are designed for use in inks, Vynamon in plastics and Monolite & Monastral in coatings:

Heucodur Infra-Red Reflecting Inorganic Pigments

It is well known that a white surface remains cool in the sun, whereas a black one quickly heats up. The sun emits almost 50% of its energy in the near infra-red (NIR) region of the lectromagnetic spectrum. This radiation is absorbed by dark surfaces - such as roofs, walls and facades - and the energy is degraded into heat.

This heat production leads to increased thermal degradation of the polymer matrix, discolouration and reduction in life-time of the affected components. Further, increased temperatures inside affected buildings lead to increased demand for air-conditioning, with its associated energy costs and possible envronmental damage.

Black surfaces strongly absorb both NIR and visible light, whereas white effectively reflects this radiation : from a designer's point of view, however, a white or pastel colour may not meet the consumer's demands.

The new range of Heucodur IR pigments offers a wide range of shades from yellow through to black and enables the formulation not only of architectural, building and construction coatings, tiles, plasters etc, but also automotive exterior and interior applications such as dashboards and tanks etc.

Use of Heucodur IR pigments extends the life of the polymer matrix and substantially reduces heat build-up as a result of the absorption of near IR radiation.

Vanadur-Plus Bismuth Vanadate Pigments

Vanadur Plus bismuth vanadate pigments are silica-encapsulated yellows in two shades. The encapsulation providing improved chemical and heat resistance.

Typical areas of use are coil coatings, powder coatings and various plastic applications. The improved chemical resistance - for example against sulphur dioxide (industrial atmospheres) and strongly-alkaline coatings (silicates) is another reason to use these brilliant specially-treated pigments.
